Microsoft and Huawei eyeing Blackberry acquisition, report says

In accordance with a report from DigiTimes, there are several companies that are looking into purchasing the Canadian company. These companies include Microsoft, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Lenovo. The Redmond-based software giant is said to be the frontrunner, as the company has even requested investment firms to evaluate the possibility of an acquisition deal. This comes at a perfect time, as Blackberry have recently released their financial results for Q4. For the three-month period ending on February 28, BlackBerry reports a net profit of $28 million, while a year earlier the company's situation wasn't rosy with a $148 million loss.

While Microsoft's interest in BlackBerry comes from the fact that the latter's focus on software services is in line with its own offerings, Chinese companies looking for a possible deal are aiming to strengthen their presence in the US and Europe, the report notes. BlackBerry's stance on the matter is yet to be declared.
